As part of the on-going Core Development programme at BAE Systems Samlesbury, a new ‘state of the art’ titanium machining facility was required to house the complex component manufacturing systems needed for the F35 Lightning II combat aircraft.

F. Brown plc were subcontracted to install roofing and cladding on the Advanced Forming and Assembly Facility (AFAF) plus an LV Substation and Argon Farm building; to serve the plant and machinery.

As a registered Teamkal contractor, F. Brown plc installed over 4000m2 of Kalzip standing seam roof plus barrel vault rooflights which created a triple skin whilst providing natural daylight, energy saving ability and thermal efficiency.

Kalzip TF 800 R aluminium Façade System with pre bonded corners was specified for the walls, to create a contemporary and individualistic design whilst providing acoustic and thermal insulation, with integrated triple bank louvers facilitating air discharge from the building.

Additionally, 600m2 of Hunter Douglas QuadroClad metal rainscreen façade system was installed to enhance the aesthetic appearance whilst controlling rain penetration, maintaining ventilation and providing thermal insulation.

This project was one of a number of buildings at BAE Systems sites at Samlesbury, Warton and Barrow on which F. Brown plc have worked.
