Brown - Care for buildings
Company Projects - Roofing

Following performance analysis of the building envelope at The Pond Hall Building at Sellafield which houses 2 large water ponds as part of the re-processing of spent uranium rods, concerns were expressed over the long term integrity of the cladding.  F. Brown plc were approached to suggest an acceptable cladding replacement option and worked closely with Tata Steel

to develop this.

Under contract to Shepley Enginers Ltd, F. Brown plc; an approved installer within the Tata Steel Platinum Warranty scheme, removed approx 14,000m2 of aluminium sheets from this highly visible project and replaced them with Trisomet wall cladding panels.

The building is over 36metres high and 192metres long and in a marine environment close to the Irish Sea and exposed to the elements but despite these challenges, work to a value of over £1.3million was completed 5 months ahead of schedule.

As this is a nuclear facility, health and safety issues were very closely scrutinised but with the project completed without a single first aid incident, it ensured a payout of almost £10,000 to local charities who benefited from its impressive safety record.

F. Brown plc received many commendations for the work which resulted in the project receiving an 'Excellent' grading in the prestigious

SL Business Excellence Awards and further orders being placed with

F. Brown plc for work on the site, including several buildings within the rigourously controlled Separation area.

Additionally, F. Brown plc have carried out remedial cladding work at BNFL sites at Magnox-Chapelcross and Capenhurst.
